30 full days must pass after your last test, so the earliest retest is the 31st day after it.
How the date is worked out
The Naval Aerospace Medical Institute allows a retest only after 30 full calendar days have passed since your last administration was completed. The test day itself doesn’t count, and the 30 days in between have to be complete, so the earliest retest is the31st day after your last test.
Example: a first attempt on October 1, 2026 means the earliest retest is Sunday, November 1, 2026, with 2 attempts left.
Before you book a retest
- Three attempts, ever. There is no way to earn more, so each one is worth preparing for.
- The newest score replaces the old one, even if it is lower. A retest is a risk as well as a chance.
- Use the 30 days. Find your weakest subtest with the OAR practice test, then drill it with the math, reading ormechanical practice tests.
FAQ
- How long do you have to wait to retake the OAR?
- At least 30 full calendar days between ASTB-E administrations, counted from the day your last test was completed, with no waivers. The OAR is part of the ASTB-E, so the same rule applies whether you took the full battery or only the OAR.
- How many times can you take the OAR?
- Three times in your lifetime. Every ASTB-E administration counts, including an OAR-only sitting, so plan your first attempt as if it were your only one.
- If I retake the OAR and score lower, which score counts?
- The newest one. Per the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, your most recent OAR or ASTB-E scores replace all earlier scores, even when an earlier score was higher. Only retest when you are confident you will improve.
